Custom Corner: Disney + DC Dress Up

Halloween is the perfect time for dressing up as someone else, and these Disney characters aren’t about to be left out of the fun!  From Carl’s grumpy Batman and his trusty Wilderness Explorer sidekick, Robin, to Stitch’s mischievous Joker and Lilo’s adorable Harley Quinn, these characters, created by Jun Go, are set for trick-or-treating through Gotham’s streets this year.

Custom Corner: Disney + DC Dress UpDrawn to the cute and colorful POP vinyls, a stark contrast to his one sixth scale collection, Go jumped into customization when he discovered the lack of figures representing local Filipino icons.  Go’s own collection, comprised of mainly DC, Disney, and Marvel, inspired this particular mashup, giving him the opportunity to combine some of his favorite fandoms.  Favoring hand painting and minimal alterations to the original vinyl, Go collaborated with his friends at studiogenesis to bring the set to life.

Custom Corner: Disney + DC Dress UpCustom mashups are more than just a new paint job on an old vinyl, the specific characters that are being put together, along with the attributes pulled from each character, needs to be just as carefully thought out so that they strike a balance with each other.  Go achieved a perfect marriage between each character, pulling enough from the DC characters to be recognized as a costume while keeping integral aspects of the original Disney figure intact; Carl’s tennis balled cane and Sally’s iconic stitches come to mind.  Together, Go and company brought some of Gotham’s finest to our Halloween streets, giving these Disney characters the chance to embrace a new identity for a night; even the Pumpkin King needs to take a break from his spooky throne every once in a while.
