Armed with a spear and lively Angelic Ribbons, Angela of Asgard is ready for a fight. Devina Lindberg, creator of this piece, is at the artist table again, bringing with her a bounty hunting angel to die for. The expertly crafted figure makes it clear that, whether fighting under Heaven’s orders against Spawn or traveling through space with the Guardians of the Galaxy and battling Thor and Loki, Angela is a force to be reckoned with.
Since Lindberg’s debut in the custom vinyl world she has created countless beautiful figures, from the DC villain ponies to Star Wars mashups and beyond. In each figure, her strength has come out in the brilliantly simple designs. The figures aren’t overworked, with too many bits and pieces fluttering around to make them confusing, and they aren’t so broken down that they’ve become sterile and boring. Rather, she strikes a perfect balance between the simplified style of the Pop! vinyl figures and the details in the sculpt and paint jobs that deliver the character’s story.
Planning ahead is one of the most important parts of the custom process, and Lindberg definitely thought ahead when figuring out how to create the delicate pieces shown in this figure. Using a mix of sturdy wires and thermoplastic, along with the more traditional clays, Lindberg was able to create a figure that could withstand travel and movement despite the thinly sculpted pieces. Additionally, the painting mastery – superbly clean lines on her Angelic Ribbons and on edges between clothing and skin – bring out the smooth sculpting of the figure. While this Asgardian Hunter may have had a complicated and convoluted past, her representation in the Pop! world is nothing short of straightforward and exemplary.
