We’re starting Pokémon training this week with Brenda Le’s Ash and Charizard custom POPs! This hand-painted pair from the game (and TV show and movies) that took the 90s by storm are perfectly adorable in their stylized POP form. Details like Charizard’s fiery tail and Ash Ketchum’s signature hat make the set easily recognizable as the characters we know and love.
Le has created custom POPs such as Aang from “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” Captain Hammer from “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” and more. After beginning her own collection she realized that Funko would probably never make some of her favorite characters or variants, leading to a host of custom characters from the well known to more obscure.
“I know these two are well liked by all, but I also enjoy making customs of lesser known characters that I personally love,” Le said on the inspiration behind these two characters. “It isn’t about making a quick buck in my mind. It’s for fun.”
And we’re having fun looking forward to seeing more of Le’s customs! After all, we’ve gotta catch them all!
