Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss Pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything Pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion and the first double Pop Flashback Friday from 2019. Ant-Man and Blackout Ant-Man from San Diego Comic Con from the Ant-Man set are this week’s featured MCU Pops.

Ant-Man
#85 Ant-Man

Ant-Man was released in 2015 and is one of the “smallest” grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe films at the domestic and worldwide box office. The film introduced the goofy Scott Lang and his band of misfits. Of course everyone knew Pops were coming for this film and sure enough we got quite a few. Unfortunately, for this set the only two characters to receive the Pop treatment are Ant-Man and Yellowjacket. Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and a few of the smaller characters would’ve given the set some variety. What the set did give was a ton of Ant-Man variants. This article features two Pops. The original Ant-Man and the “Blackout” Ant-Man which wasn’t featured in the film as far as I can remember but a very a unique variant nonetheless. The normal Ant-Man could be found in anywhere Pops were sold. However, Blackout was much harder to come by.

Ant-Man
#85 Ant-Man (Blackout) (San Diego Comic Con 2015)

The Blackout version was only available at San Diego Comic Con 2015 for the convention price of $15.00. As you could imagine the price shot up during that week but eventually settled in the low 20s. I attended SDCC in 2015 and tried to get that Pop but at the time the Funko lines and the system to get a ticket to get into those lines was ridiculous. I ended up adding it to my collection for $20.00 a few months after the event. As the years continue to pass the difficulty to pick up these Pops at a reasonable price is going to be hard. The normal Ant-Man is right around $10.00 however, it is now vaulted so look for that price to rise sooner or later. Blackout should increase as well especially being an SDCC exclusive, not to mention my favorite version of the Pop.

Answer the two trivia questions below and choose an MCU Pop that I haven’t covered in a Flashback Friday article. Leave your answers and choice in the comments section. If your answers are correct I will choose a random person with the correct responses and their choice will be featured in a future article. This week’s trivia will come from Ant-Man.

Q1: Which character in the film is played by a former Lost alum?

Q2: What’s the name of Scott Lang’s daughter?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday and don’t forget to join our Facebook group. Excelsior!

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.
