For today’s review, I take a look at the Funko x Disney Parks Pirates of the Caribbean release in 2018. Featuring a recently revamped, fan-favorite character on the the ride, here is the Redhead… oh wait, I mean Redd.

Last year, Disney announced that the Auction Scene in the ride would be revamped, going from the auctioning off of captive townswomen to other items, such as rum. Additionally, the popular Redhead character (“We wants the Redhead!”) would be turned into a pirate character. While there was some controversy over the decision (I myself did not want to see the change), earlier this year both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World had the update take place.

Fun Fact: The Magic Kingdom version of Redd utilizes a very familiar and recently removed audio animatronic for the face… Tarzan’s Jane from the Great Movie Ride.

While I am starting to grow on the new look and feel of the character, I will say that I really like the look of this Pop! Vinyl. It’s a great nod to the ride, and the evolution of it to fit the political correctness of the world around us. I also like that now that she is more of an official character, she is expanding in the parks, with Disneyland also getting a walk-around, Meet and Greet character in New Orleans Square. I am hoping that soon we will see her come to Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom.

I will forever miss being able to chant with the pirates in the Auction Scene, but I am very happy to have this Pop! Vinyl to my Disney Parks collection. I would love to see Funko expand the Pirates of the Caribbean ride line to include the Auctioneer or maybe a few of the scenes from the ride, like Jack Sparrow popping out of the barrel to get the key and the map to the treasure or the prison scene with the dog helping the keys. I think they would look great with Redd and the other already released Pop! from the attraction, Jolly Roger.

Are you a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride? What are your thoughts on the changes they recently did to Redd? Let me know in the comments below.
