Flashback Friday – Gamora

Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss Pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything Pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Gamora from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Discussion: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the second film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature Zoe Saldana as the daughter of Thanos, Gamora. Gamora has gone through an incredible change from the first film to this film. Her mindset has shifted from being anti-family due to Thanos killing her family and taking her on as a daughter. She’s clearly been through some crazy stuff and Thanos isn’t exactly someone to raise children properly. He turned her into an assassin and pitted her numerous times against her sister Nebula. So when you see her in this film interacting with Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket, and Drax you can tell they’ve had a major impact on her life. They’ve become an unlikely family and she cares about each one of them. She even reconciles with Nebula which kind of brings her family arc full circle up to this point.

The design of Gamora from the first film to this one has been night and day. The bright green skin color compared to the duller green from the original just looks stunning along with the more realistic hair color. Her weapon has been upgraded to a blaster and the subtle features on her face have been beautifully accentuated. Gamora (#199) can be purchased from several outlets for a very reasonable $10.00 to $15.00. She’s still in production and wasn’t an exclusive so you should be able to track her down pretty easily. Unfortunately, only one Gamora has been released for each film in Pop Vinyl form but hopefully Avengers: Infinity War will remedy that and give us Gamora fans more to collect. She’s definitely not the most popular character within the Guardians but she is a really cool and complex character and I hope Funko gives us more Gamora.
