Amazon recently announced plans to produce a TV series based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, and Funko released their second wave of Lord of the Rings Pops in perfect timing for celebrating fans. I picked up the new Lurtz figure a few days ago; here are my thoughts.
The chieftain of Saruman’s Uruk-hai militia is depicted in full leather armor with a scimitar and shield. The best element of this figure is definitely the head and face area. It perfectly captures the likeness of this fearsome villain, with details including his oversized top gums, pointy ears, and messy handprint warpaint. The body, while mostly dull brown and not as in-your-face as the bright and menacing facial area, does a good job of conveying Lurtz’s sturdy build and contains great detailing in the armor and weaponry, such as scratches on the shield.
While Lurtz did not have a lot of screentime in the LotR movie trilogy, he was part of [in my opinion] one of the series’ best fight sequences, and this figure portrays Isengard’s fiercest warrior in appropriately terrifying fashion. Definitely a major recommendation for any fans of the Tolkeinverse!
