Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion which was chosen by me. Luke Cage from Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones is today’s topic.

Discussion: When Marvel and Netflix came to a deal several years back that they would produce Marvel content to specifically air on Netflix, many fans including myself were very excited. This could allow the shows to become more edgy and adult in nature. That’s definitely what we got with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. We got our first look at Luke Cage in the acclaimed 2015 hit, Jessica Jones. He was a barkeeper in one of the establishments that Jessica frequented. He later became a love interest and sort of an antagonist towards the end of the season. Luke would go on to star in his own self-titled series and The Defenders.

Unfortunately, for many of us who are big fans of the Marvel series on Netflix there just isn’t a huge amount of pops dedicated to those series. The most you’ll see is Daredevil. In fact, Daredevil and its characters get most of the love. The only two characters we’ve received for Jessica Jones are one Luke Cage and one Jessica Jones. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the Defenders have not yet received any pops. Even Daredevil season two has pops that include The Punisher and Elektra. I’d love to see some serious additions to the Jessica Jones set. They could do new versions of Jessica and Luke. Give us Kilgrave, Trish Walker, Malcolm, and Jeri Hogarth. There’s so much untapped potential in this set and I’d like to see it explored further.

Luke Cage was widely released in 2016 and could pretty much be found anywhere pops are sold. I know I saw it at Barnes and Noble, GameStop, Hot Topic, and Target. If you can’t find it in stores you’ll definitely want to check out Amazon and eBay. You should also check out our Facebook group where you can buy, sell, trade, and discuss anything and everything Funko. Luke Cage is still going for retail and you should still be able to pick one up for right around $10.00. I don’t think they’re going to release another Luke Cage for the Jessica Jones set but I’m keeping hope alive for one from Luke Cage and The Defenders.

Fun Fact: In this section I’ll post an interesting fact or two from the chosen film or television series.

The character Kilgrave is known as “Purple Man,” as he possess purple skin, a result of a chemical accident that granted him his mind-control powers. Though this feature and his origin are altered in the show, his character is still represented by the color purple with it appearing in his choice of clothes.

Trivia: Welcome to our weekly trivia where you have a chance of choosing the pop for the next column. Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and win. If you become the weekly champion you must choose a pop within the MCU that has not been featured in the Flashback Friday series. This week’s questions will come from Jessica Jones.

Q1: What trademark phrase does Luke Cage say?

Q2: What is Jessica Jones superhero name?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday. Excelsior!!

  1. They ARE making a Killgrave! It’s been on some GameStop pre-order lists! I’m so excited! Now we just need Trish and Malcom from Jessica Jones, Misty Knight and Cottonmouth from Luke Cage, and Ward Meachum from Iron Fist (you know he was the best thing about that show!) I’m curious as to how Karen Page, Claire Temple, Stick, and Madame Gao still don’t have pops… Seriously, how did Fisk get a pop when they don’t have one yet? And we don’t even have a Danny Rand/Iron Fist from the show, we only have two comic book versions. Lame!

  2. @Brady! Congrats on winning this week. What character would you like featured next week?

  3. @ipavlovic24 Sorry I waited so long, but how about Cosmo the Space Dog? Love this series by the way! Keep it up!

  4. @Brady: Thanks for getting back to me with your choice. I hope you enjoy it and thanks for reading and the support.
