The WWE has experienced a transformation of sorts over the last year. Indie wrestlers are in high demand, the Brand Extension was brought back, and the new and improved Women’s Division have all been turning points for the product. Funko needs to address the changing attitude of Women’s Wrestling.
There are five female WWE Pops as of this writing. They include AJ Lee, Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Paige, and Eva Marie. It’s a solid start but opportunities are being missed. Funko and WWE can capitalize on the popularity of their Women’s Division. Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, Emma, Mickie James, Carmella, Naomi, and Natalya are fantastic choices for future Pops.
Over the last couple of years the Women’s Division have become a huge part of the weekly Raw, Smackdown Live, and NXT shows along with the monthly PPVs. Sasha Banks and Bayley won Match of the Year in NXT. Sasha and Charlotte competed in the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match. Sasha and Bayley competed in the first ever women’s Iron Man match. Becky and Alexa were in the first women’s Cage match. The list goes on and on.
Funko should start with the Four Horsewomen (Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley). They should all receive their very own Pop. Variations could include different outfits and hairstyles. You could have Sasha in her 2016 WrestleMania gear that was created for her hero Eddie Guerrero. Charlotte could have her bright blue outfit modeled after the Ice Queen Elsa from Frozen. Bayley could have her Iron Man inspired outfit from NXT. Becky should be decked out in her steampunk gear. There are so many options for these four women.
I’d also like to see a Charlotte and Sasha Banks two pack because of their great rivalry in 2016. They could easily do a Sasha Banks and Bayley two pack based on their 2015 NXT feud which is phenomenal. I don’t think anyone would disagree that Alexa Bliss in her Harley Quinn inspired outfit would be a hot seller. I think Asuka would sell pretty well too. She’s super popular in NXT and has been champ for almost 300 days. With her Asian inspired outfits and masks I think it’s a no brainer.
Here’s what I’d like to see. There should be a wide release of general female WWE Superstars that are available in Hot Topic, Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes and Noble, and GameStop. Then there should be exclusives for each store and definitely WWE.com exclusives. Since Hot Topic is big on Harley Quinn exclusives I’d absolutely put the Alexa Bliss version in that store. It would also be really cool to see some of the Pops show up at onsite merchandise stands at various arenas for Raw, Smackdown Live, NXT, and PPVs.
I sure hope Funko and WWE can move forward with this and let 2017 be the year of female performers. There are a ton of fan favorites right now and there’s so many possibilities for characters and costume variations. I’d for sure get all of the Sasha Banks variants.
Would you like to see more WWE female pops? Be a Legit Boss and let us know in the comments with a little Flair. Trust me when I say you don’t want to get on Little Miss Bliss’s bad side because she can get blissed off really quickly.
