I was searching my brain for a creative title that encompassed the top trending Funko items for a week. The obvious answer was the “Hot List” list but I wanted to think of something better. I asked my 14 year old daughter for an idea since she’s gifted and pretty creative. She pauses for a minute and says “Lit or Nah” I stared at her for a second and she explains that “Lit” means awesome or great. Nah means the opposite of Lit. I stared at her again and just walked away while she insisted that I was not lit at the moment. Here’s your first edition of the “Hot List.” If you have a better suggestion, or think my daughter was right, leave it in the comments.

Qui Gon Jinn

128 Qui Gon Jinn LE 2000 (NYCC)

Oh Funko, why do you do this kind of thing to me? I’ve waited for years for a Qui Gon Jinn to be made and when he’s finally announced he’s a NYCC exclusive and limited to 2000 pieces. I had a press pass and still didn’t get one due to the lottery time for the Funko booth. Some capitalists were buying Qui Gon Jinns from people at the beginning of the line for $100 and then walking to the back of the line and selling them for $200. I think Donald Trump would hire some of these guys to work in his cabinet.

At the moment, Qui Gon Ginn’s are soaring in value and while the price should stabilize at some point, expect to pay north of $250 for the time being. I can’t imagine Funko doesn’t make another Qui Gon at some point though. That’s just too much money left on the table. Give me an action post Qui Gon vs Darth Maul two pack. Or maybe a “Lightsaber through the gut” variant. Too soon?

Cereal Dorbz Three Pack

Cereal Icons 3 Pack
Cereal Icons 3 Pack

Funko has a lot of history with these cereal icons. While not the best cereal I’ve ever eaten, I love Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Franken Berry. I hae the Pops, Wobblers, Blox…but not these yet. Toy Tokyo’s booth seems to sell out earlier and earlier each year. Not sure if Toy Tokyo will sell on their website later or if buyers will have to resort to eBay. With these not shared with any other location, these will be a pricy item to track down later.

Dorbz are growing in popularity. They aren’t at Pops level yet but they are by far the 2nd most popular Funko line. This 6″ Thanos was a LE of 500. You could only get it at NYCC and at Funko-shop.com (in a very small quantity) and that added to its popularity.

Golden Girls ReAction

Who knew that the Golden Girls would be so popular in 2016? I’m not sure how many “hardcore” Funko collectors wanted these but the media and the pop culture community were hyping these madly. This is what you call a coup for a company. When you can get Nerdist, NBC, and other main stream media to hype your product, it makes your company grow. Somebody at Funko needs a raise!

That’s it for the inaugural edition of the “Hot List” which will normally run every week on Sundays.
