Today we’re joining the Rebel Alliance in the fight against the Imperial Fleet, but these Rides ain’t in this for their revolution, they’re just in it for the money (and maybe the Princess). Featuring the iconic Millennium Falcon and the Rebel Alliance’s X-Wing Starfighter, these POP Rides, created by John Reyes of Riverspoons Studios, are sure to shoot a solid one-two blast through Darth Vader’s Death Star and onto our POP-filled shelves.
Reyes began customizing action figures in 2008, working through different styles and lines before landing on Funko POPs in 2014. After starting out with a battle damaged Mark 42 Iron Man he was hooked, moving on to create anything from Emmet and Wyldstyle from The Lego Movie to a “Death of the Family” Joker.
The detail work on these Rides is exquisite. Tiny panels and buttons march up and down all sides of the Rides, distressed panels showing the wear and tear of the well-travelled starships they are. Miniature heat exhaust vents adorn the Millennium Falcon’s stylized hull, pipes and knobs branching out along the surface from the drive units at the back to the sensor dish at the front. From the thin grooves around the X-Wing’s Thrust Engines to the tiny laser cannon’s jutting out from its wings, the designs are a perfect marriage between screen-accuracy and the modified POP style, a challenge that Reyes welcomed as inspiration when creating the figures. POP-sized spaces nestled into the center of each Ride add a flawless finishing touch.
Do, or do not. There is no try. Reyes surely took Yoda’s infamous words to heart when creating these iconic ships, pulling them straight from the screen and into our POP-loving arms. Star Wars fans, these are definitely the Rides you are looking for!
