When I was a little child, life consisted of just my parents and me. Later on two brothers would join us, but for the first five years of my life, that was family. We didn’t have much but I don’t recall being too deprived. In the days before cable, we had a tv and antenna in our living room. Every morning before school and in the afternoon after I got home, I’d go turn on my non-remote control television and flip to my favorite channel: channel 8 which was the local PBS affiliate. The reason why it was my favorite was because of Sesame Street.
Entertainment Earth offers product reviews to PopVinyls.com occasionally and when Sesame Street was offered, I jumped at the chance. As a 40 year old guy, it might seem odd to want to collect a series based on a show for toddlers and elementary school kids Yet to this father of four, I felt a way to share a bit of my childhood with my kids.
Today, I received four of the upcoming Sesame Street Pops from Entertainment Earth: Super Grover, Ernie, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch. (In addition to these four, the series also consists of Bert and Mr. Snuffleupagus)
Without a doubt, this series is a highly detailed series that will appeal to collectors of nostalgia and excellent detail. Super Grover was my favorite so I’m so glad he’s featured as the first piece of this series. Funko could have easily sold a ton of “just” Grover but going the extra mile for Super Grover is an excellent touch. Ernie is another character where they didn’t cut corners. Ernie is a pretty simple guy but just adding his Rubber Ducky (You’re the one!), lets Sesame Street fans know that the artist who designed him was a fan of the show. You can’t have Cookie Monster without his trademark cookies and googly eyes. Finally you have Oscar the Grouch who will make my Top 10 Pops of the Year List with his trash can lid and his pal Slimey the worm. I had forgotten about Slimey until getting this in the mail. The trash can also has his trademark “scram” which is another extra that shows how Funko is continually raising the bar in what they give collectors.
