Three years ago, when someone would mention Diamond Select Toys (DST) to me, there was only one thing I would think of…. Minimates. They are, in fact, the major staple of DST, and have been for over a decade. However, it wasn’t until I started going to Toy Fair that I saw some of the other fun, highly detailed collectibles that DST puts out. From Action Figures and Statues to Scaled Models and Prop Replicas, DST really puts out some high quality work. Recently, what have especially caught my eye are their lines of Vinyl Bust Banks.

They basically describe themselves… hollowed out bust statues where you can put your change. What’s good about them being made of vinyl plastic is that they are both more durable to dropping change into, etc. and they become more affordable. And since DST has a lot of different licenses in their wheelhouse, you get a varying array of characters in bust form. Here are just a few: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars: Clone Wars) [shown here without his detachable lightsaber blade], Rick Grimes (Walking Dead: Comic Series), and The Wolfman (Universal Monsters).

I really love the detail on all of these. They look quite “lifelike”. Obi-Wan is actually staring at me right now from across my desk and I am half expecting him to talk to me in some weird “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” type situation. For me, the highlight of them is The Wolfman one, but only because I love the Universal Monsters and the old movies they are designed after. Lon Chaney was a great Wolfman.
