You woke up this morning and if you’re one of those people that were working for the weekend (hopefully you sang that as I did…) then you’re excited because it’s Saturday! But wait there’s more! Due to some revamps you’re also getting Thursday Night Highlight today! So your Saturday just got even better…right? For the sake of my own ego I’m going to go with yes… This is possibly the best Saturday you’ve had and it’s only going to get better from here. As always Thurs—Saturday Morning Highlight is brought to you by Esbjo_Figs over on Instagram (that’s me!). See that photo up there? That’s the photo I posted Sunday night after the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts for a ticket to the Super Bowl and the AFC Championship. Unless you’ve been under a rock this past week all anybody can talk about is “Deflategate”. Allegedly the Patriots underinflated their footballs for God knows what reason. I’m going to mention this briefly because this post isn’t about the on goings of the NFL, but as I’ve made numerous Patriots Funko Pop photos in the past it’s no secret that I’m a huge fan. So, I’ll say this and only this. People who dislike the Patriots are always going to be quick to jump on things like this. Quick to assume this evil empire did something corrupt and horrible to win. The NFL hasn’t said anything in regards to whether or not the Patriots did cheat, but a “source” said 11 of 12 footballs were tampered with. Until the NFL decides to release their findings I’ll remain optimistic. And if they did tamper with these footballs and it’s proven without a doubt then maybe we’ll get a Hot Topic exclusive of Tom Brady holding a flat football. See? It all comes full circle to the reason we’re here! Now… on to the photos!
“Queen Elsa: The Hottest Recruit In The Superhero/Mutant Draft.”
Nick Fury (#14), HT Exclusive Metallic Magneto (#62), and Professor X (#57) from the Pop! Marvel line and SDCC exclusive Elsa (#82) from the Pop! Disney line. The inspiration for this photo came after I did one similar to it a week before. Magneto and Professor X were trying to convince Elsa to join their respective teams as she has a special gift, but what if Nick Fury came alone with an offer of his own? Sure running with Magneto and Professor X would have it’s advantages, but Nick Fury and his team have a Hulk! So, Nick swoops in and tries to steal Elsa away from mutants. Professor X isn’t too happy about it, but maybe they’re going to play chess and regroup? Or maybe they’ll just… wait for it… let it go.
“Daydreaming.”
Stitch (#12) and HT exclusive Elvis Stitch (#127) from the Pop! Disney line. Stitch is always bouncing off the walls, causing havoc and trouble for his pal Lilo. What does Stitch think about when he has a second to relax? Why imitating his idol of course! Elvis Stitch is one of my favorite Pops because it’s so well done. The sculpt is awesome too, but recently I saw a custom Stitch dressed up as Wolverine. That was amazing! You can check it out too over at the Funko Trading Facebook group where customizers all over come together to share their work. This custom was done by popvinyls.com Matt Norris’s wife Bethany! Check out here link on the main page for more of her amazing work.
“There’s A New Sheriff In Town.”
Maggie (#98), Prison Glenn (#151), Poncho Daryl Dixon (#72), and Carol (#156) from the Pop! Television line and Woody (#3) from the Pop! Disney line. Well well well… looks like Rick Grimes has been replaced and not by Shane! But by everyone’s favorite toy cowboy Woody! It’s a mash up that has been talked about in many discussions with the comparisons between the Walking Dead and Toy Story 3, but now it’s reached the Funko Pop world! Seriously though is there anybody you’d rather have in your corner than Woody? He’s proven on many occasions that he’ll go above and beyond for his friends and that he’ll never give up on you. Who knows what kind of damage he can do to walkers with that hooped string on his back. I’m leaving out the best part. IF a walker did manage to get their hands on Woody then what would the worst case scenario be? You’d have to stitch him back up! He could keep on going! Ah who knows… maybe one day Disney will own AMC the way they own everything else in the world and we’ll get something as far out as this. Mash up peoples! It’s the future!
