Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Doctor Strange from the Doctor Strange set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Doctor Strange
#161 Doctor Strange w/Rune (San Diego Comic Con 2016/GameStop)

Discussion: Doctor Strange was released in 2016 to good reviews and good box office numbers. I thought Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the hero did a fantastic job and only improved in Avengers: Infinity War. The origin story which a lot of people compare to Iron Man 1 worked very well. It was nice to see how he started from the bottom and worked his way up to Sorcerer Supreme. The Rune which is on display in this Pop is used when he starts magical spells. It looks very similar to what he does when he opens portals to walk through or send people and items through. What’s interesting to note is that Doctor Strange was very powerful in the first film. You can tell by watching Avengers: Infinity War that his magical prowess has increased exponentially within that gap.

What makes this version of Doctor Strange pretty neat is that he’s the only one holding the Rune and he’s exclusive to San Diego Comic Con 2016. However, if memory serves he was also available at GameStop for a limited time. I remember after having no luck at SDCC I tried GameStop and every one I visited was sold out. This was definitely a popular shared exclusive but definitely not super limited to get. The Pop normally sells between $30.00 and $40.00. That’s the range you’re going to be paying if you’d like to add this Pop to your collection. I’d recommend checking Amazon, eBay, and the multiple Facebook groups that exist. I believe this is the most expensive Doctor Strange Pop you can own as of right now so get in on the hunt.

Trivia: Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and win. If you become the weekly champion you must choose a Pop within the MCU that has not been featured in the Flashback Friday series and post it after your answers. The questions are from Doctor Strange.

Q1: What’s the name of Doctor Strange’s mentor?

Q2: What’s the name of the character that Doctor Strange beats by using an infinite time loop?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday and don’t forget to join our Facebook group. Excelsior!

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.
