Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Tony Stark from the Spider-Man: Homecoming set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.
Discussion: Iron Man is the most popular character within the MCU. Spider-Man is probably the most popular Marvel character ever. When Spider-Man made his debut in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War he was met with a ton of praise. Naturally, that meant he was going to get his own movie. Since both of the Amazing Spider-Man films suffered lower returns at the box office it definitely made Sony question how much money they should spend on the movie. Enter Iron Man. Since a deal was made between Marvel Studios and Sony we now had the great fortune of Robert Downey Jr. appearing in the film which I thought was pretty darn good. Because the film was good and had Iron Man it became a late summer hit with a lot of staying power with repeat viewings. Films that feature Iron Man tend to make a lot of money.
Now we come to one of my personal favorite Pops from Spider-Man: Homecoming and it’s none other than Tony Stark. Not only is Tony sporting a suit along with some killer shades, he’s actually holding his Iron Man mask. I’m not sure why but I really dig the Pops that hold masks similar to the Punisher holding Daredevil’s mask. Of course Funko makes the really cool Pops more difficult to get. Tony Stark was a San Diego Comic Con exclusive in 2017 and if you know anything about SDCC and the Funko booth then you know it’s very difficult to get into that line. Surprisingly, he’s only going for roughly $30.00 on eBay right now which is kind of a steal. I think his demand will only increase especially with the outcome of the character uncertain with Avengers 4 a few short months away.
Trivia: Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and win. If you become the weekly champion you must choose a Pop within the MCU that has not been featured in the Flashback Friday series and post it after your answers. The questions are from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Q1: What other character from Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man 3 appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming?
Q2: What is the name of Peter Parker’s best friend in Spider-Man: Homecoming and what character does he become if they follow the comics?
I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday and don’t forget to join our Facebook group. Excelsior!
