Flashback Friday – Korg

Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Korg from the Thor: Ragnarok set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Discussion: Korg was first introduced in Thor: Ragnarok in 2017. While preparing to battle the “Champion” and looking for an escape route Thor runs into him. Korg introduces himself and tells him a little about himself and the forthcoming battle. For me, one of the things that really stands out about Korg is his voice. I don’t know much about the character outside of the MCU but now I’d always imagine him with that laid back voice. I won’t spoil who the voice actor is because that’ll be one of our trivia questions below. It’s safe to say that a movie full of comedy from Thor, Hulk, Valkyrie, and The Grandmaster that still has room for comedy from Korg is surprisingly well balanced. He adds a dry wit and it works wonders by himself or interacting with the other characters throughout the film.

Korg was released in late 2017 along with the film as he was a part of Wave 1. What’s really interesting is that he was not an exclusive to any particular store but his value has increased quite a bit. I don’t remember off hand if he was a 6 inch figure but either way it’s becoming more difficult to find him for original retail value especially since he’s less than a year old. Looking at recent eBay sold listings it’s easy to see that you’ll have to pay upwards of $20.00 to get your hands on one of the most memorable characters in the film. We didn’t get any updates on Korg from Avengers: Infinity War so we’ll have to hold a few months longer to see if he’ll make another appearance or if his Ragnarok role was a one time appearance.
