Hello true believers and welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss Pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything Pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Black Widow from the Captain America: Civil War set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.
Let’s round out the month of April with another Civil War character that played a much different role in the film. I think Natasha is one of the only characters that really understands both sides of the Sokovia Accords. She recognizes that Steve and Tony make really good points but she ends up siding with Tony which even surprises her. Once Steve begins to take Bucky’s side and help him escape, the government orders the Avengers to bring them in and they have to do it according to the Sokovia Accords even though she knows it’s not the right call. The Accords are tearing the Avengers apart and pitting them against each other. Half of them are working with Steve to save Bucky while the others are working with Tony to bring in Steve’s team for breaking the law. Eventually, Natasha switches to Steve’s side and helps him and Bucky escape the airport and in doing so, the rest of his team is arrested and placed in an underwater prison called the “Raft”. This entire incident leaves Natasha in a weird place but now she strongly supports Steve and what he’s fighting for.
This Black Widow is in a “ready to fight” pose and if you know anything about Natasha she’s always ready to throw down when needed. For me, the Pop is pretty average. She’s not doing anything cool or brandishing any kind of weapons or tech. My other issue is that these Marvel female Pops are really difficult to display out of the box and even with a stand sometimes they fall over. Hopefully Funko can fix this moving forward.
Black Widow is numbered 132 in the Marvel character master set. This version was not an exclusive and was released in 2016. Because Black Widow is not an exclusive she was widely available for purchase wherever Funko products are sold. She’s part of an 18 Pop Captain America: Civil War set. If you check out the brand new Funko collection tracker app you’ll see that as of this publishing, the Black Widow is only going for $10.00. I’d expect this Pop to increase over the coming years because it is vaulted.
Answer the trivia question below and choose an MCU Pop that I hasn’t been covered in a Flashback Friday article. Leave your answer and choice in the comments section. If your answer is correct I will choose a random person with the correct response and their choice will be featured in a future article. This week’s trivia will come from Captain America: Civil War.
What line does Natasha tell Steve at the funeral?
