Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss Pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything Pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Rocket with Baby Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.
Rocket Raccoon also known as “Rocket” turned out to be a massively popular character in Guardians of the Galaxy, second only to Groot. Rocket’s foul mouth and feisty attitude endeared him to fans around the world. So what could be better than a Rocket Pop? Well let me tell you. Obviously it’s a Rocket and Groot Pop together. This Pop is one of the later releases for the set. Releasing way back in 2015 as an exclusive to San Diego Comic Con. I can tell you with absolute certainty that getting into the Funko line to get any Pops that year was extremely difficult. I tried a few times over the week to get into that line with no luck. Fortunately, a few months later I was in a comic shop in Southern California and the store was selling one for $20.00. What did I do? Well, I bought it of course. It’s now sitting on my desk at home with the rest of the set.
What I thought was going to be a relatively pricey Pop turns out to just barely increase above the retail price it sold for at SDCC. The price has been hovering around $20.00 for some time and I really don’t see it increasing that much over the next couple of years. Just my opinion but as we’ve seen in the past you never know what might start soaring in demand. Either way I think if you are fans of Rocket or Groot or both you should add this Pop to your collection. It’s a pretty unique Pop for the Guardians set at least until the second set is released but that’s for another time.
