Flashback Friday – Star-Lord

Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Star-Lord from the Guardians of the Galaxy set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Discussion: Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge movie for everyone involved but Star-Lord has been a career defining role for Chris Pratt. The role shot him to super stardom and now he’s one of the most popular and recognizable movie stars on the planet. After seeing him play the character in three movies with at least one more to go it’s difficult for me to imagine anyone else in that role. It’s similar to Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Guardians is a great film on several fronts and as we’ve seen with the characters, Funko has no problem going all in with Guardians products. Although Groot and Rocket get the majority of product love there’s been a good amount of Star-Lord related items. Two Pops for Guardians one is pretty solid for an ensemble cast.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters. This Star-Lord Pop was an exclusive to Amazon. Amazon now has numerous exclusives for Marvel and every other category of Funko products and has become the exclusive provider for Marvel Collector Corps. Surprisingly, Star-Lord hasn’t increased in value that much over four years. He’s going for roughly $10.00 more than his original retail price which means it’s as good as time as any to pick one up for your collection. You’ll need to check eBay, Amazon, and Facebook groups in the hopes to find a decent price. I do own this Pop and purchased it right when it went up for sale in 2014. I’m proud to say I’m only missing a couple of Pops from the original Guardians of the Galaxy set and I hope to complete it one day down the road.
