Well, Dragon Con has finally begun and we’re here to cover it all. We is my wife and I because really, no one loves this more than her. We arrived in Atlanta at the Hyatt Regency and it was a nice change to get here early in the morning. Think of it as the calm before the storm. We arrived about 10 am to just a smackerel of geeky awesomeness.
We grabbed a late albeit pricy breakfast at the Hyatt restaurant because we knew we couldn’t get our press passes until noon. After breakfast, we decided to walk around Atlanta and I love this part of town. We people watched and did mental high fives when we saw someone representing our fandoms. We ended up walking into the AmericasMart which will have the amazing vendors located inside of it beginning Friday. On the way through the building they had a lot of beautiful Christmas displays that I sent over to our corporate friends North Pole and Chill and they should have that story up later this week. I will cover the vendors more on Saturday and Sunday.
After that quick excursion it ended about 11:30 so we headed back down to the Greenbriar Room at the bottom of Hyatt just past all the awesome people who were donating blood. Dragon Con is underrated for its charity work. And for giving up your blood, you get a cool Dragon Con shirt for free!
The wait wasn’t that long to get our media passes. By the time we made it back up to the Hyatt Lobby, I could feel the change in the atmosphere. No longer were guys in suits in charge. Oh no, it was controlled by my people. You know…members of the nWo and the Empire.
Dads with proton packs helping his family load up the luggage to head up to the room.
A lady with a Ghostbusters adorned car (that I didn’t notice until now really needs some air in her tire. Somebody help her out!
And a bar adorned with Stranger Things decor. The wife stated that it’s never too early for Vodka so we hung out with the Christmas lights for awhile.
But most importantly the entire lobby (and the surrounding hotels that we went to) were filling up with our people. People who are accepting of others and people who don’t mind letting their geek garb fly. So for all those at Dragon Con, let the fun begin. If you are in the area, come down and buy a day pass on Saturday or Sunday. Check it out. Watch as over 80,000 Dragon Con fans and about the same amount of Auburn and Washington football fans turn downtown Atlanta into a grand party. And if you can’t make it this year, go ahead and start planning for next.
It’s fun worth having.
Tonight we’re off to some wrestling events, some parties, and some…..sleep. We need it! Tomorrow is a light day for us but we’ll have an update and then we’re ready for the weekend. It’s time to see all of our DC family.
