Flashback Friday – Grandmaster

Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Grandmaster from the Thor: Ragnarok set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Discussion: Thor: Ragnarok hit theaters in the Fall of 2017. The movie was getting rave reviews from critics and audiences and it’s still on the higher end of reviews for an MCU film. Here’s the consensus from Rotten Tomatoes “Exciting, funny, and above all fun, Thor: Ragnarok is a colorful cosmic adventure that sets a new standard for its franchise – and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” I think the Grandmaster played a huge role in how funny the movie turned out to be. I didn’t know anything about the Grandmaster going into the movie but man was I pleasantly surprised. For me, Jeff Goldblum killed it as the character and had some of the funniest moments out there. Every interaction he had with Thor, Hulk, and Loki was gold. I was like there has to be a Grandmaster Pop and sure enough there is.

I remember after I saw the Grandmaster was going to be released I was super sad because I thought it was only going to be available at NYCC and I wasn’t going to have the opportunity to get one. Thankfully, for a lot of us collectors it was revealed that Grandmaster was going to become a shared exclusive. Thus, the price would be very reasonable to the general population. I was able to track one down at my local Hot Topic and I believe it was going for $15.00. I snatched that up quick and bought a hard case protector to go with it. Doing a quick check on eBay I’m seeing sold listings for $30.00-$35.00. It’s going to continue increasing in price so if you’re really wanting the Grandmaster in your collection you might as well pick one up soon.
