Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. With the release of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer this week I thought I’d go back and take a look at the main antagonist of the film who is none other than Thanos.
Discussion: So in case anyone was living under a rock this week there’s been some major news. Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. It goes without saying but you should definitely go watch that trailer a few times to increase your hype level because the trailer is fantastic. What’s really cool is that we got to see Thanos in the trailer and he talked and threw a punch. So I thought why not go back and talk about Thanos from the Guardians of the Galaxy set while the interest in the character is trending upwards. Thanos is known as the Mad Titan and his ultimate goal is to gather all of the Infinity Stones and insert them into the Infinity Gauntlet to have unimaginable power.
There have only been two Thanos pops released by Funko so far and both were in the Guardians of the Galaxy set. This specific one is an Entertainment Earth exclusive with the neat feature of being able to glow in the dark. I do own this pop and I can confirm when the lights are off his head glows and it looks really cool. He joins the other Thanos in my collection. If you’re interested in reading about it you can check it out at this link. I’d say if you are a fan of the Mad Titan you should definitely look to add this pop to your collection. Our fantastic Facebook group has a ton of members you can buy, sell, and trade from at the following link. Definitely check it out if you’re looking to expand your collection.
Seeing Thanos in the trailer and comparing it to what we see here you can tell the design is quite a bit different. The skin color is more red and pink whereas in Guardians it was on the purple and blue side. I’d guess that both Thanos pops will increase in price during the months leading up to the Avengers: Infinity War release. You can find him on some online outlets for around $25.00. You should definitely jump on that price before it increases even more.
Trivia: Welcome to the trivia section. Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and you get to choose next week’s pop. You must chose an MCU pop that has yet to be featured in the Flashback Friday series. This week’s questions will come from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Q1: Why did James Gunn decide to keep Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy?
Q2: Which character in Guardians of the Galaxy did Michael Rooker almost play before being cast as Yondu?
I hope you enjoyed this week’s article. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday and as always Excelsior!
