Batman may have started as a solitary hero fighting against evil, but he certainly built up quite the crew as the years went on. In this action-packed series of figures, Carlo Gomez is at it again, this time adding some of Gotham’s finest to the custom fray, mid-leap and bullets flying.
There’s a lot of material available to be inspired by when creating Batman customs, but this particular series pulled its inspiration from the DC Rebirth comic series. “Each pose of the character was based on their comic cover artwork,” Gomez notes, but its his artistry that brings them to life in 3D form here – each of these customs is created entirely from scratch save for the POP! base for the head. “I often use clear effects to make it more dynamic looking,” Gomez says on his process, and the effect is astounding, allowing Gomez to freeze the characters mid-action while they leap into the air guns ablaze.
While fantastic on their own, together the pieces create an action-rich diorama of Gotham’s crime-fighting knights leaping off of one of its many rooftops to fight the baddies below. “A lot of my clients were requesting an interconnected base,” Gomez says, and the Gotham rooftop presented the perfect opportunity. And while Batman is certainly a formidable hero on his own, Gomez shows with this series that teams – especially the custom vinyl kind – are always better together.
