Each month, Funko reveals one Pop and one Dorbz that will be sold exclusively at comic stores as part of a specialty series. One of the more recent entries is a dorbz based on Batman’s appearance in the DC miniseries (and one of my favorite comics ever) Blackest Night. I was really excited to see this online and preordered it from a local comic store.
It definitely does a great job of recreating the costume worn by a zombified Batman in the comic, including an accurate Black Lantern logo. I liked the molding of the head, as the ridges above the eyes give the face a sort of skeletal appearance. Additionally, the choice to give the figure black eyes insted of Batman’s typical white makes for a much undead-er look.
The only problem I have with this figure is the way the cape is put on. It is glued to the body at a slanted angle, so on one side it goes too high and pushes the head up from fully being attached to the neck peg; while on the other side it goes too far and results in the figure being tited forward slightly. Neither of these effects are too bad, but are still a little annoying.
I would rate this figure 8/10. While it does have some flaws, it really well designed and I’m happy to see Funko expanding into some comic book looks that hardcore fans can appreciate. With this figure, as well as the recent Black Lantern Batman, White Lantern Firestorm, and Blue Lantern Flash figures, I’m hoping that Funko continues to add to its Blackest Night/Brightest Day line with possible entries such as Yellow Lantern Scarecrow or Indigo Lantern Atom.
