Welcome to Flashback Friday: The MCU. In this series you’ll get a review and discussion on some of your favorite Pops and Dorbz from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We really appreciate the shared universe so the figures will come from film, television, and streaming. Today I’ll be discussing a character whom some consider a hero; some consider a villain; while others think of him as an anti-hero. Please welcome Captain America’s best friend Bucky Barnes, AKA The Winter Soldier.
The Winter Soldier is from the Captain America: The Winter Soldier line of Pop Figures. This is the first time we get Pops from a Captain America movie because Funko never released any for Captain America: The First Avenger. I’m very much hoping they’ll release a few Pops based on that film but I’m not holding my breath. This specific Winter Soldier is numbered 44 (the last number in the line). What’s unique about him is that he’s wearing the full face mask including the goggles and to date he’s the only Winter Soldier Pop with those accessories.
The costume is really well done. The mask looks nearly identical to what we see in the film. The goggles and hairstyle match incredibly well. The mechanical arm color with the glove and the red star are spot on. The lower body with the pants and boots look great. Similar coloring really brings the piece to life. The upper body works really well. The belt buckle and the straps around the shoulders and torso fit the part. My only small complaint is that the shirt is too brown. I think it needed to be a little bit darker. Other than that I think they did an incredible job taking the character from the film and really nailing the costume and design of the figure. It’s definitely one of my favorite MCU Pops.
The Captain America: The Winter Soldier set includes Captain America (Masked), Captain America (Black and White), Captain America (Glow in the Dark), Captain America (Unmasked), Black Widow, and Winter Soldier with no goggles. This is one of my all-time favorite MCU sets because Captain America is my favorite MCU hero and we got some really cool Captain America variations. Even though I was personally very happy about this set I still would’ve really liked to see Falcon, Agent 13, Brock Rumlow, Aaron Pierce, and Nick Fury as additional Pops.
If you’re interested in picking up the Winter Soldier or any other Pops in this set it will be somewhat difficult. All of the Captain America: The Winter Soldier pops are currently vaulted. This Winter Soldier within the last few months has been selling between $30.00 and $100.00 on eBay. If you’re lucky you should be able to purchase him for around $50.00. Check back next week for another MCU flashback. Excelsior!
