Marvel and Funko have announced they will be joining together to celebrate Captain America’s 75th Anniversary – and the United Service Organization’s 75th Anniversary – with Operation: ReDorbz.
This July, Funko and Marvel will host a charity event in San Diego as part of the festivities surrounding San Diego Comic Con. As part of the momentous milestones, Marvel and Funko have gathered gifted artists from Marvel Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, Funko and beyond to bring their own original twists and takes to 18-inch Captain America “jumbo” Dorbz figures. Following the event in San Diego, each and every one-of-a-kind figure will be auctioned on eBay in support of the USO.
Seventy-five of the custom collectible figures will be on display at Funko’s San Diego offices during San Diego Comic Con, and the gallery will be open to the public through the weekend. Following a private, 1940s-themed gallery showing on July 21st, each of the 75 figures on display and approximately 200 additional submissions will be available for auction on eBay.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Marvel to support the USO and celebrate Captain America’s 75th Anniversary”, said Brian Mariotti, Funko CEO. “It’s an honor to host this gallery event in our San Diego offices, and the auctions will be an amazing opportunity for collectors to own a truly original work of art all while supporting the USO.”
The custom Dorbz figures will be on display starting 10am, July 21st at Funko’s San Diego offices located at 448 W. Market Street in the Marina District, directly across from the Grand Hyatt Manchester. The auctions for the figures begin on July 21st and can be found on eBay at http://www.ebay.com/funko.
