Pop Countdown #10: TMNT

Let’s discuss the pop lines of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this week! I know they’re a popular Funko product – stretching from pops to dorbz, wacky wobblers, plushes, mystery minis, and more! Let’s dive right in.

10. Splinter

Character-wise, I was very surprised to see Splinter come in dead last this week. However, after seeing all the pops in the wave, I have to agree. Splinter’s pop is just not cute-i-fied enough. He’s a rat to start with, so that doesn’t help matters, but it just isn’t as cool or cute as the rest of the line – and you guys echoed those sentiments!

9. Foot Soldier

Not surprising at all, we find Foot Soldier at the bottom of the list. The reason is pure and simple – Foot Soldiers are merely punching bags for the ninja turtles. They are not a centralized character or villain for the audience to cling to, they’re just sort of there. Without the emotional attachment to a character, pops often do not do well on our countdowns!

8. April O’Neil

Next we have April. Probably because the pop is relatively simple compared to some of the line, we find April in her yellow jumpsuit pretty low. I definitely think that the coolness factor just lies elsewhere in this line.

7. Rocksteady

Next is Rocksteady. I think Funko did a great job on this one. There is a lot of subtle detailing involved here and I commend them for that. Love the sculpt for his horns and his outfit and they overall nailed the character. One of my favorite for sure.

6. Bebop

Wherever Rocksteady goes, Bebop must follow, and this countdown is no different. Bebop with his purple mohawk, tusks, mask, and signature outfit comes in next. I think they did an excellent job and detail-wise this one is definitely my favorite. Disfan49 wrote, “He was my favorite character from the entire show! His pop is perfection! Everything from his face, his glasses, his Mohawk, his vest, his shoes…I could keep going but I’ll stop there!” Clearly someone agrees with how cool the detailing is on this pop!

5. Shredder

Shredder comes in next. Definitely the most menacing and notorious of the turtles’ villains, his pop is awesome. Complete with metallic armor, awesome arm pieces, and his cape, his pop just oozes coolness. I’m sure that’s why he tops the non-turtle portion of this list! But, of course, the turtles had to be the top four!

4. Leonardo

First of the turtles to fall on the list is Leonardo! Armed with two katanas and a side smirk, his pop is pretty awesome. Even though differentiating the turtles is difficult when merchandising, I think Funko does a good job here with different facial expressions and weapons.

3. Raphael

Next is Raphael. Andrew Tate voted for Raph because they “both share the same tough guy smart ass attitude.” I think his pop captures that attitude with his facial expression pretty week. I also love his two weapons. Very cool.

2. Donatello

Complete with his signature weapon, next we have Donatello. While his mouth is just a mirrored image of Leo’s, the weapon makes the pop cool, different, and very characteristic of Donatello. I love this one.

1. Michaelangelo

Finally, my favorite pop in the line comes out on top for once! Leading the pack is Michaelangelo. Probably largely driven by his fun personality, he commanded most of the votes. His facial expression is fun, just like him, and he is the only turtle to come with nunchucks – the coolest weapon in my personal opinion. Easily my favorite turtle, he reigns supreme.
