These days it’s all about the thrones, whether it’s thrones made of swords, defeated robots, or shards of ice, with crowns being contested in every realm imaginable. But under the sea, in the watery kingdom of Atlantis, Aquaman, King of the Seven Seas, holds the throne firmly in his grasp. In this custom, created by Carlo Gomez, the Atlantean King sits proudly on his aquatic throne, accented by a watery wave and sea creatures dotting the ground around him, his Trident at his side.
This custom figure isn’t Gomez’ first creation, having created custom figures for many years, but he’s dedicated the past year to taking a new look at POP customs. “What’s cool about Pop Vinyls is that they’re very versatile,” Gomez says of the figures. “Whatever pose or style that you make out of it, it always stays cute and adorable.” Pulling his inspiration from the original comic book characters, Gomez aims to make the POPs more dynamic, giving them action poses or bases that build on the original POP design.
Gomez’ dedication to bringing out the energy and spirit of each figure is clearly evident in his Aquaman custom. From the delicate bumps and bubbles in the translucent wave behind his throne to the custom box art, complete with peep-holes that look through Aquaman’s sigil, every aspect of this piece is carefully thought out. The details, almost entirely sculpted by hand from the scaled torso to the sandy base below, pop against the simple metallic color scheme, emphasized by the carefully carved textures and grooves. With this incredible attention to detail, this limited edition pop is sure to be scooped out of the sea in a flash!
