What happens when you mix Star Wars with a nearly invincible frozen zombie? A Sith Walker, of course! Devina Lindberg, creator of this custom and a number of other Star Wars-themed mashups, has created so many merges between characters and universes that she could be said to specialize in these clever combos. From her Venom Trooper to Sith Lord Yoda, no character is spared from her creative concoctions.
One of Lindberg’s first ever customs started as a challenge she gave herself, combining good and evil in a Yoda/Darth Maul mashup. What started as an exercise in crisp paint application became a passion, with Lindberg experimenting with the Sith facial patterns on a number of different characters. “…there was something really satisfying with being able to paint clear, straight lines,” Lindberg said of the process. The mashups grew from there, with Lindberg creating customs that ranged from the almost-too-cute, like BA-AT (a Batman/R2-D2 mix) to the very silly, like her Harley-bacca (or Chewba-Quinn?).
As with the Force, the mark of a good mashup is balance, in that there is enough of each character in the figure to be recognizable but not overwhelm the other characters that are present. Lindberg manages to hit that balance on the nose every time, each custom figure managing to embrace both characters as well as the silliness that the combinations can produce. The fun is definitely strong with this one.
