Last month, the TIME Loot Crate was amazing. This month’s theme was COMBAT, and touted to contain items from Fallout, Blizzard, and more. It got my crate in yesterday and… well, it’s was kind of lackluster. Let’s see what I got.
1. TMNT Shredder Sunglasses
I mean, I like sunglasses and all… but I am not sure with these. Even though I like the concept, it’s a bit clunky to be wearing around.
2. Exclusive Fallout 4 Vault Boy Bobblehead
I am not a fan of Fallout 4, but a friend of mine is. Looks like a perfect gift for the holidays.
3. Exclusive Cute But Deadly Magnet Set w/ Cute But Deadly Mini
Again, not something I am a fan of, but i guess the minis are a cute set. My blox had Diablo in it, which is 6/36… would have preferred one of the Merlocs, which would have gone on my desk at work since i like the design.
4. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Pin
Probably the only thing from the crate that I will keep this round. I loved The Hunger Games Trilogy of books, and the movies have been awesome so far. Hope to see this final installment during the upcoming holiday weekend.
5. Exclusive- Street Fighter Hyper Looting #1 Comic Book
Not sure I am okay with a comic book about Loot Crate employees and Street Fighter characters teaming up to fight evil. Seems a bit of a stretch, even for an exclusive comic.
Also, the inside of this month’s crate shows a backdrop for your Fallout Boy Bobblehead. I’m not going to use it, so no sense in deconstructing the box.
Overall thoughts: For a few out there, this month’s Loot Crate is probably a big miss. I do see the value in the products for the cost of the crate (roughly $20), but for me it didn’t spark my inner geek much. Is it a bad box? Not necessarily… it’s just not my cup of tea.
Some people ask me why I still get Loot Crate. For one, I do not want to miss out on the exclusive Pop! Vinyls, mainly because the three they have had so far, Doc Brown, GITD Groot, and Joker Batman, were pretty awesome. Do I know when they are coming? No… but from time to time… which is fine by me.
I also feel that, even without the Pop! Vinyl or other Funko product, the value of the crate is worth it. I think some people feel every month needs a Funko product. That’s why we subscription services like Marvel Collector Corps and Smuggler’s Bounty. Not every subscription service need a Pop! Vinyl. Loot Crate does a pretty decent job of getting some fun exclusives. Is every month a winner? Nope. However, more often than not, I can at least appreciate the contents.
The good news is that Loot Crate has announced that their December crate, themed GALACTIC, will include an exclusive Pop! Vinyl from Funko, and feature items from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Halo 5, and Galaxy Quest. This sounds like it will be an awesome month.

Each month is a different theme, and each hits a different area of geekdom. Best yet, the monthly subscription is less than $20. Try it out for a month, as you can cancel at anytime.
Happy Looting!
