Today I received my two Smuggler’s Bounty subscription boxes from Funko. (Full disclosure: one box is complimentary and provided for review). If you aren’t familiar with Smuggler’s Bounty, it is the new Star Wars themed subscription box service that Funko just began after the successful launch of their Marvel’s Collector Corp sub box service.
Just like the Marvel Collector Corp, each box comes with a patch and pin.
I love the patches and pin idea so this works for me. Also like MCC, you get an exclusive shirt. (Editor’s note: Apparently, there are multiple shirts. I’ve seen confirmation of 2 so far).
Here’s my Pop! Phasma Shirt. Pretty neat design.
Something that MCC didn’t have is a lanyard. So MCC gets the comic box while Smuggler’s Bounty gets’ this beauty.
I’m going on a hunch that we won’t get a lanyard every box but that this item could rotate. It gives the box a bit more flexibility. Now, what you have all wanted to see are the Pops. We knew about the Chrome Captain Phasma beforehand and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s gorgeous. The other Pop! is a Force Awakens Tie Fighter Pilot. But wait..there’s also a chase of the Tie Fighter Pilot with red stripes. In my two boxes, I was lucky enough to get both Tie Fighter Pilots.
Some have complained that we got another TIE Fighter Pilot after we got one at NYCC. While I can understand that, this TIE Fighter is from the new Force Awakens movie while the NYCC one was from the original movies. I had always assumed we wouldn’t get any spoiler Force Awakens Pop! in this box. I can imagine that the next Smuggler’s Bounty will have a great new character for sure. Regardless of opinion, I like these, especially the chase piece.
As a huge fan of Star Wars, I can’t imagine getting disappointed by an upcoming box. The shirt, pin, patch, lanyard and two Pop! Vinyls per box FAR exceeds the $25 price tag. If you are a Star Wars collector, this is a no brainer due to its value and exclusivity.
