With the scariest month of the year finally at our doorstep, it’s fitting that we’re kicking off the month with a villain who is obsessed with fear. Here stands The Scarecrow, created by themonsterkrebs, in all his insane glory. Built from scratch on a DIY POP, this figure is the embodiment of the fear he totes, from his tattered hat to his open-stitched gash of a mouth to his bright glowing eyes that draw you in again and again, his menacing grin breathing madness through its frayed edges.
Themonsterkrebs’ style is perfection when married with a character like this that is so vividly mad. His impressionist style pulls out the agitated insanity normally only associated with the character’s custom fear-gas, his apparent glowing eyes hypnotic in the ensuing hallucination. It adds a touch more sinister flair to the figure’s rustic apparel, in contrast to the sickly green canisters strapped to his back, and the darker shadow lines so signature to his style also stand as an acknowledgement of the comic art on which the figure is based. This Scarecrow is marching on the road to fear, and at the end of fear… oblivion.
