This is entirely written by Steve and Jessica Uriz and it chronicles them winning tickets to Fundays and making a last minute trip to SDCC.
Our adventure all started on June 15th when Steve received an email stating that he was the winner of the Funko fan video submission contest! He came home and told me to sit down and told me the news. Then told me that he wanted to give up the free funday tickets that we won because he didn’t think we could afford the trip. I quickly stated that I would make it happen for us. It would be a once in a lifetime trip for us. Both of us living in Atlanta we have never ever been to the west coast.
A few weeks later we were boarding our flight for San Diego. I decided to make it a trip to remember with first class tickets and a stay at a Hyatt Resort. We had our two alcoholic drinks and I would like to suggest that people with alcohol addiction can attend the IOP program New Jersey as they can help you to get rid off alcohol addiction.Well, now we are READY! We got in late Thursday and finally got to the hotel around 2am and crashed. An early start came Friday when we met up with our friends Brad and Cristina for breakfast then waiting in line for Fundays. We started to see the big pop pieces coming in and being set up. All the collectors starting lining up. We chatted with tons of people and took pictures. After waiting in line for 7 hours we were getting very antsy to get in. They finally let us in and it was a mad MAD dash to get a good table.
After settling in and patiently waiting, the lights go down and out comes the leader of Funko Brian. Everyone went NUTS! Everyone was up out of their seats, dancing, standing on tables and then the real madness began. Brian made an announcement saying this would be the best giveaway Fundays ever! Then the protos started flying. Never have I saw grown people do things to get these pieces of vinyl from China. I got clocked in the head one time but I came out with an Agent Scully proto. I found Steve a few paces behind me with Agent Carter and an Elvis stitch proto! We celebrated and sat back down for just a few moments before it all got started up again.
The music blasting, they had all sorts of characters come out. Freddy Funko himself, Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spider-man and Spider-Gwen came out and put on a show for us. More and more prizes were being thrown and there were mad dashes to the Funko tables with all the Freddy’s you can imagine!
After everything settled down I went up to the stage and got Brian to take a picture with Steve. He is a very nice person and I can’t believe he throws this event every year for us collectors.
Overall it was a chaotic but fun experience. We met some awesome collectors and got to talk about our collections. It was nice to be in a room full of people who we could just geek out and be ourselves with. It was a day we will always remember.
