It appears to be the ongoing debate when it comes to Mystery Mini collectors. Is cherry picking certain minis an acceptable behavior? A few recently released sets, such as Frozen or Avengers: Age of Ultron, have made certain figures so large, that one can tell what is in the blind box without ever opening it. I have actually seen sealed Hulkbuster Mystery Mini Boxes for sale. That seems to be an unfortunate guarantee the seller can make. The offset for this could have easily been an equally sized Hulk figure, but he seems to be of normal size and weight. The Frozen set at least offers the two Marshmallow variants, so there is still some question as to what’s in the box. The ratios on them are also much higher at 1:24 and 1:72, which also helps deter this.
It would also appear that there are far fewer Crown Marshmallow Frozen Minis for sale than the influx of Hulkbusters we have seen. It is quite obvious when you go to purchase a set of the Avengers Minis, which are a 1:12 Ratio, and only one of the boxes is missing. The low ratio seems to be the only saving grace here, assuming you can find a fresh box in store, or perhaps order the complete set yourself.
It will certainly be interesting to see which way Funko sways when it comes to the figure ratios in the future. If they choose to stick with the 1:12, this would make completing sets fairly simple, even when cherry picking figures is possible. If they do include the more sought after 1:72 or even 1:144 variants, similar to DC Series 2, Walking Dead, and Big Bang Theory, it might pique the interest of those fueled by the chase!
The excitement you feel when making the decision of which box, does get completely lost when the blind box is no longer a mystery. How do you feel about cherry picking Mystery Minis and the low 1:12 Ratio sets?
