Yup… Shut up and take my money. How many of us know this meme well? I know I do, because I shout it a lot these days with the awesome products Funko is putting out. Included in this list of products that have me just throwing money at the cash registers are the just released Futurama Pop! Vinyls. Let’s take a closer look in this Highlight Series.
Futurama was an adult cartoon which aired on television on and off for the better part of over a decade. Being that its’ fan following was so passionate, it actually came out of retirement not once, but twice. In total, seven seasons made up of 140 episodes and four direct-to-video movies were released. The show can still be seen in syndication and, who knows, there could be more episodes and/ or movies in the future. Both the cast and its’ creator, Matt Groening (of The Simpsons fame) want there to be a future.
For the first wave of Futurama figures, there are four base figures, and word is at least a couple of exclusives. Let’s take a look a better look at the four base figures, as well as the characters they are representing.
Philip J. Fry (Fry)
Turanga Leela (Leela)
Bender Bending Rodriguez (Bender)
Robot Devil
I personally love the way these Pop! Vinyls convey the persona of the character. Granted, usually animated characters find themselves to be better represented on these figures more so than real life figures, but I do think these are top notch. I know that most Pop! Vinyls don’t have a mouth. However, I would have enjoyed seeing Bender’s grimacing mouth on his version… I think it would have brought even that much more character to the figure.
Now, I did mention earlier about exclusives. Yes, there is rumored to be two. One we have already seen a proto of, and this picture of Fiddle Robot Devil is brought to us by one of our Funko Trading Facebook group admins, Ross McCoy.
It is rumored that this will be a San Diego Comic Con 2015 Exclusive, but no official word from Funko on its existence or release method has been sent out.
There is also rumor that there will be a Golden Bender also exclusive to SDCC 2015 as well as Hot Topic. Again, no official word has come from Funko, this is just what we have heard through the rumor mill.
Will there be more exclusives for the Futurama series, or possibly more in the line? I would love to personally see a Zoidberg make the team, and I know a bunch of my friends would love to see this line extended… perhaps maybe a Mystery Minis set? I know that Bender will be part of Sci-Fi Mystery Minis Series 2… so it could be possible. I would enjoy that set, as I know a lot of others would.
Are you a fan of Futurama? Will you be adding any of these new and upcoming products to your collection? Let us know.
