Funko’s Mystery Mini line is gaining serious ground on their Pop! figures. With the recent release of the Series 2 DC and Series 3 Walking Dead Minis, it appears as though the blind box has made an incredible surge upward on the totem of vinyl collectibles. This is undoubtedly due to the excitement (or stress) one feels when they are standing over a case of Mystery Minis, with the arduous choice; which box? How does one choose? Do you pick two, or perhaps 3? Ok…just a case, and then another. Whether you’re 7 or 47, you feel a great responsibility to choose wisely.
The quality of the Mystery Mini, as well as the extension of characters, has wrangled in even those who had little interest in them originally. The amount of detail in the design of the 2.5″ figures is nothing to pass-over. As Pop! Figures have variants exclusive to Comic-Cons, which make them very difficult to obtain, theMystery Mini offers the same opportunity as Charlie’s golden ticket. We are all chasing that elusive 1/144 or 1/72 Variant and we are allotted an equal chance to find one. However, Hot Topic has made the search even more challenging, as they already offer rare variants of their own, drawing in collectors who are searching solely for those characters.
