On the last day of Toy Fair, I finally got around to visiting the Loyal Subjects booth to take a look at their 2015 offerings. They were all the way in the back corner of the bottom floor of the Javits Center, mixed in more with the board games and such. Seemed to be fine to them, as they want to stand apart from either action figures or vinyl collectibles… with what they are dubbing “Action Vinyls”.
At their booth this year, Loyal Subjects were showcasing their newest lines of “Action Vinyls”: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (MMPR) Series 1, Transformers Series 3, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) Series 1. Loyal Subjects are using the term “Action Vinyls” because these are more of a hybrid between action figures and your common vinyl collectible. For example, the MMPR and TMNT lines feature multiple accessories, numerous points of articulation, and in the case of MMPR, removable helmets. The Transformers line now features stuff like spring loaded arms (Series 3 Rumble), LED lights (Series 3 Wheeljack), and sound effects (Series 3 Scrapper), in addition to specialized weapons and parts for different characters.
Here are some pics of the MMPR and Transformers 3 lines on display.
What’s interesting about both the Transformers lines and the TMNT lines is that The Loyal Subjects are also offering special window box figures in addition to the blind boxes. These qindow boxes are mostly retailer exclusive (The TMNT ones are GameStop exclusive) and feature either exclusive characters or repaints of existing characters.
The TMNT line is especially interesting for me in 2015 because of two things:
1. They will be branching out into a line of character keychains, which look pretty sweet.
2. Exclusives for this series will be amped up considerably, with San Diego Comic Con getting two different exclusive sets (Black Scale and Gray Scale), and the company Hastings getting the exclusive Glow-in-the-Dark set. Seeing them in person, they all look like must haves for me.
Here is the rest of the TMNT line on display:
They also had on display concept art for Series 2 for the TMNT line. This one will have a lot more baddies, including my all time favorite…. Slash.
To be honest, last year after visiting with The Loyal Subjects, I was on the fence about how successful they would be in this market. However, after seeing some of this product aside from prototypes and concept art, I will say this: I think they have a bright future ahead of them.
What do you think of the lines that The Loyal Subjects are putting out? Chime in below.
