Occasionally, the guys here at PopVinyls.com are sent stuff to review that are not necessarily Funko/ toy collectible related. It’s rare, but it does happen. In this case, I found in my mailbox one day a copy of the newest DC Comic Original Movie, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, based of the graphic novel of the same name. Being that we have a lot of avid readers who are also big Batman/ DC fans, I was given the green-light to review it for the site. Don’t worry, I will not spoil it with plot lines, etc. Ready? Okay.

In all honesty, the first thing that caught me off guard was the animation. Take a look at the image above. You see computer-generated, almost human looking characters. When the movie started, that’s what I was expecting on seeing. What did I get instead?

The animation reminded me more of a children’s cartoon show. Not saying it wasn’t bad, just not what the movie cover led me to believe. However, for it looking more like a cartoon show, I don’t feel like it should necessarily be geared towards children. In fact, even though it’s a cartoon, it’s rated PG-13 for Sci-Fi Violence and Action Throughout… and there honestly was, from the first scene to the last. ,It is a very mature movie. However, the characters are nicely designed and the animation flowed very nicely.

It’s good to point out that the casting for this movie was great. Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern were standouts to me. Other voice actors include Matt Lanter as Aquaman, Jerry O’Connell as Superman, Jason O’Mara as Batman, Christopher Gorham as Flash, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, and Sean Astin as Shazam. All of their voices fit the look and feel of the character, which I feel is missed at times when voice casting movies… especially if they are trying to go with star power. This movie delivered on that front.

Now, I will admit that I did not read the graphic novel, so I have no comparison between it and the movie. However, I will say that the story was lacking. Without doing the whole spoiling thing… you might be disappointed if you read the graphic novel, based on other reviews I have read and friends I have talked to. If, in fact, you just want to watch a nicely animated and, to me, fun Justice League movie, you will enjoy this.
