Last month, we announced that PopVinyls.com and custom artists were coming together to raise money for Toys for Tots. You can read that article HERE but basically we will be auctioning off donated custom Pops in our VK Auction House to raise money for Toys for Tots. Artists who have committed to donate a piece will send their pieces to me by November 24th for a photo shoot and for the auctions to begin on December 1st. Today, I want to share with you our 2nd donated custom set by John Pinney. John’s Surfing Santa 2 piece set is a pretty hilarious look at Santa and Mrs. Claus at the beach during their younger days! Santa and Mrs. Claus are all bronzed up for a day of surfing and laying on the beach. In just a few years, these hot youngsters will pack on the pounds and deliver gifts to all the good boys and girls!
I asked John a few questions so you can find out more about him and his customs.
What got you into making custom Pops?
I was making custom fandom shotglasses and plates, but they cost too much to make. I just took my painting skills and found pops and easier and less costly medium.
How long have you been making customs?
Just a few months now. I mostly paint them and don’t take them apart or add sculpting clay, so mine are a little different from others.
What is the favorite custom you have made?
My custom Sweetums muppet I made from an Animal pop. It was for my fiancee’s birthday.
What was the inspiration for the piece you created for our Pops for Tots auctions?
I wanted to do something fun and you really don’t see much in the way of teenage Santa out there, do you?
How can people see other customs of yours and commission their own?
They can contact me through Facebook, I don’t have an Etsy anymore. Most of the customs I do I would post on the Funko Trading Facebook Page anyways.
