Last month, we announced that PopVinyls.com and custom artists were coming together to raise money for Toys for Tots. You can read that article HERE but basically we will be auctioning off donated custom Pops in our VK Auction House to raise money for Toys for Tots. Artists who have committed to donate a piece will send their pieces to me by November 24th for a photo shoot and for the auctions to begin on December 1st.
Today, I want to share with you this amazing custom donated by Elaine Ingram Walker. Elaine’s “Christmas Belle” was the first to arrive at my house and boy did it impress.
After receiving the custom, I asked Elaine a few questions about this custom and being a custom artist.
What got you into making custom Pops?
I’ve done a handful of regular custom Pops, but I don’t have the proper tools for them. I prefer buying those customs from the skilled pros like Jared, Brenda and Joe. My favorite customs are the crystal covered ones. I saw a custom Ursula on Etsy that was covered in Swarovski crystals. It was over $300, so I decided to make my own. I needed to practice on a different Pop to find the right glue and the correct sized crystals.
How long have you been making customs?
I think I’ve been doing this for about a year and a half.
What is the favorite custom you have made?
My favorite custom is my crystal Dumbo. I did one for myself and another one as a commission. I like elephants.
What was the inspiration for the piece you created for our Pops for Tots auctions?
Stacey Alpers gave me the idea for Christmas Belle. I didn’t want to just cover Santa Claus with crystals, I wanted to do something a bit different. So I used a Belle head and an Aurora bottom for the figure. I repainted it to match Belle’s Christmas dress, then covered it with crystals.
How can people see other customs of yours and commission their own?
I have a few customs pictured here on the Funko Trading FB page and on the Funko Funatic board in the custom section. I can always be contacted here or under Edorice on the board for commissions.
Thank you so much Elaine Ingram Walker for your generous donation to our Pops for Tots Fundraiser Auctions!
