Now that the September Loot Crate, themed “Galactic”, has made its’ appearance in homes across America, I am hopefully not spoiling it for anyone with my first of ongoing monthly reviews of what Loot Crate is providing. I just got in to Loot Crate last month with the inclusion of the exclusive Glow in the Dark Groot with the “Heroes” crate, so this is fairly new to me.

Let’s take a look at this month’s offerings.

1. Star Trek Tribble- Loot Crate Exclusive

This Loot Crate Orange Tribble (made famous during the original Star Trek television series) is exclusive in color and packaging to Loot Crate. Any “Trekkie” would love this in their collection. Being a Trekkie myself, I think this is awesome, especially since it is my first Tribble.

2. Funko Sci Fi Mystery Mini: Captain Mal (Firefly) w. Shotgun- Loot Crate Exclusive

Funko has yet another exclusive in Loot Crate (second month in a row), an this time it is Captain Malcolm Reynolds with a shotgun, from the cult followed, short lived television series Firefly. In the regular Sci-Fi Mystery Minis series, Captain Mal appears with his trusty revolver instead (his right hand man Jayne Cobb also make an appearance in the set). Being an original fan of the series (one of the first “Browncoats”), I really like the homage Loot Crate paid to Firefly (loot Crate also produced a fan film of Firefly called The Verse, which you can watch for free on YouTube).

Shhhh….. don’t tell anyone, but I’m going to try and make an army of “Shotgun Mals”.

3. Firefly Currency

Another Firefly offering, this time in the form of replica prop paper currency from the show. The money wrapper claims there is 10,000 there… I got more like 5,000 or so.

4. Funko Alien ReAction Figure

Funko pulled double duty with the “Galactic” box, also including one of the newly released Alien ReAction Figures. Each box got one of the five different figures. Mine came with Kato in his suit. I really wanted the Alien, but it’s luck of the draw.

5. Pop Rocks Green Apple Flavor

If you have a new flavor of a kid popular candy coming out, of course you would find a way to get it in to Loot Crates. Me? I am not a fan of the candy, but I know a lot of people who are.

6. Han Solo in Carbonite Mini Poster & Star Wars Retro Arcade Magnet- Loot Crate Exclusive

This month’s offerings from Star Wars were a bit of a let down. First we have a 9″ x 27″ mini poster of Han Solo in Carbonite. Then we have a magnet featuring 8-bit looking artwork depicting some retro Star Wars gaming. Out of everything in the box, these two things I am least pleased by.

7. Halo Comics Download

A last minute entry, Darkhorse Comics supplied redemption cards for the digital issues of the first three comics in the Halo Escalation series. I am not a big comic book reader, but I might check them out.

8. Coupons

Included in this month’s crate are special offers from Gamefly, Gunner, Squid Grip, Origin, and Astro. Codes will be sent in October. I think I am going to look into a few of these deals. Included in the first pictures is also the collectible button for this month’s crate.

Finally, we have the monthly newsletter which, when folded out, shows a bunch of our favorite Galactic characters. Here we have Captain Mal, Tribbles, R2-D2, Darth Vader, and Ripley in the exo-suit watching over the galaxy.

I personally think that the “Galactic” crate is another home run. However, I know people that really didn’t care for this crate. I guess it all depends on what you geek out on.

Each month is a different theme, and each hits a different area of geekdom. Best yet, the monthly subscription is less than $20. Try it out for a month, as you can cancel at anytime. However, based on these past two months, I know for a fact I will be a looter for a while.
