Welcome back to Custom Spotlight! We have not one, but two customs to show you today. They are of the hyena Ed from Disney’s The Lion King and Domino from Marvel Comics. Both were done by Lindsey Ford. We asked Lindsey a few questions about her customs.
Why did you decide to make customs of Ed and Domino?
“ I’m a big fan of both Disney and Marvel, and these were 2 characters I hadn’t seen customs of before. I’d wanted to make Ed for a while, and had the pieces bought, but I didn’t get around to him to recently. Domino was a spur-of-the-moment thing.“
How did you come up for the idea for Ed and Domino?
“I got the idea for Ed back when the TLK Pop concept art was first seen on Brian’s business cards. I decided which Pop parts to use pretty quickly, although they ended up needing more modification when I started working on him than I thought they would. I got the idea to make a Pop of Domino when I was watching Wolverine and the X-Men (yes, really. haha!). I hadn’t had the idea to make her for very long when I realized that I already had some spare parts that would work great for her!“
How long did it take to complete each custom?
“Domino was pretty quick… probably less than 24 hours altogether. I had started using that head for another custom, realized it wouldn’t work, then realized it would work perfectly for her and started working on her instead. I really hadn’t planned on making her anytime soon! Ed took… probably over 24 hours. It’s hard for me to give estimates, because I kind of work on one thing, go do something else, come back to the first one, etc. But I did a lot to him; I gave him a full repaint (except for the inside of his ears; the color was perfect already) and sculpted his snout and nose, his tongue, and a ruff of fur for his back. His color scheme slowed me down some, too; it was really hard to nail down exactly what colors he should be, because he (all the hyenas, really) looked so different in certain scenes than he did in others. I was afraid I’d made a mistake making him at all when I started, but he ended up exactly as I hoped he’d look!“
They look fantastic Lindsey! Thanks for letting us spotlight them and for taking the time to answer our questions. If you would like to see more of Lindsey’s work you can at the following.
