Welcome to a new column where we spotlight custom Pops. Today we have for you Groot by Tom Shultis. We also asked Tom a couple questions about his custom. Enjoy!
“Why did you choose Groot for a custom?
“I picked Groot as a subject while watching Guardians of the galaxy. I can honestly say I now know the reason while millions fell in love with this character. This all started because my wife said she wanted me to make her one. Well, the wife gets what she wants. I posted a pic of groot to our great community and to my surprise a lot of people wanted him. I was blown away.”
How did you come up with this idea for Groot?
“I come up with ideas as I paint. I have never been one to sketch out a plan or an idea, I just dive in and change things until I’m happy with the end result. I feel blessed that a lot of people like my crazy ideas lol.”
How long did it take you to create Groot?
“Groot took about 4 to 5 hours from start to finish. The first one always take the longest because…well like I said, I sketch these on the platform as I go along. Replicating them takes on average 3-4 hours to complete.“
