A few weeks ago we received a special package from Funko. In it were a male and female DIY Pop. With my wife, Bethany Norris, being a well known custom Vinylmation artist, we wanted to show Funko fans how awesome these new DIY pops were.
Unfortunately,Bethany loved the female one too much and she had already started painting it after sculpting the hair so I don’t have any photos of the sculpting part but let’s show you what she created.
First, here’s they DIY female Pop.
Bethany loves comic books and wanted to create a female comic book character that had not been officially made by Funko at this time. It didn’t take her long to choose Mystique.
Pops go for a simple/stylized version of a character which could have let Bethany choose the cartoon version of Mystique. However, she loves the X-men movies and the scales on Mystique. So, she started creating a way to have the scales but in a more “tone downed” approach
I love the details in the hair and the way she created the scales on the head. Now let’s see what the finished product looks like:
Mystique is currently up for auction at our Facebook auction group entitled VK Auction House. join now to place your bid. The auction ends Friday. Bethany loves working with Pops and feels the DIY mold gives artists freedom to create so many more characters that are currently trapped on our “want” list. Next week, Bethany goes in a completely different direction and creates a male character from a popular survival show. In the meantime, if you would like to see more customs designs from her, like her Facebook page: Custom Designs by Bethany Norris
