Flashback Friday – Ultron

Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss Pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything Pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion and the first Flashback Friday of February. Grinning Ultron from San Diego Comic Con from the Avengers: Age of Ultron set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Avengers: Age of Ultron was released in May 2015 and was probably one of the most anticipated sequels of all time at that time. Following the first Avengers film was not going to be an easy task and a lot of people thought it didn’t live up to the original. Interestingly enough, people were really hyped about Ultron because he’s such an iconic villain from the comics. I knew it was going to be difficult living up to the massive success of Loki. He’s a very interesting character and it was exciting to see him upgrade throughout the film. My hope is that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him and perhaps he’ll make his return in Avengers: Endgame.

As of this publishing there are only two Ultron Pops created by Funko. The one featured in this article was released in 2015 which is the same year the film was released. Back in the day when you had a San Diego Comic Con exclusive they were able to be purchased for $15.00 and then would generally spike in value during the week of SDCC and would finally settle a few months later. Ultron did spike during its release but here we are four years later and you’re still able to find it for original retail value. It seems that Ultron isn’t particularly popular or least this version isn’t otherwise it would be a bit pricier. Perhaps this is the reason Funko hasn’t created more. Both are not really sought after as much as I would’ve expected. Compare it to Loki whose popularity far and away outshines Ultron.
