For today’s Pop! review, I take a look at one of my more favorite of the Pop! Ad Icons. Representing a tasty treat that almost ceased to exist a few years back, here isĀ Twinkie the Kid.

Twinkies, an American treat since its’ incarnation in 1930, left store shelves when the company filed for bankruptcy in 2012. It was thought and feared that Twinkies would never see the light of day, but the sale of the company saw the reintroduction of Twinkies, and the rest of the Hostess lines of snacks and treats, into retail in 2013.

Twinkie the Kid, the mascot of Twiinkies, debuted in 1971. He is an anthropomorphic Twinkie, wearing a ten gallon hat, cowboy boots, gloves, and a kerchief. He is often seen carrying a lasso, and sometimes riding a “wild Twinkie”.

Admittedly, I do not eat many Twinkies these days, but they were a favorite of mine growing up. When I saw that Funko was adding Twinkie the Kid to their Ad Icons line, I knew I had to get him, even though I have not been getting many of this line because of their popularity and scarcity. However, this Kid has found a spot in my collection, and I am very happy for that.
