Over the summer, I read Neil Gaiman’s incredible 2001 novel American Gods, and was delighted to learn that Starz had already released the first season of a TV adaptation. The show did a great job of preserving the book’s essence while making some interesting plot changes, and even let Funko come along for the ride with a series of Pop! Vinyls depicting some of the show’s main characters. I recently picked up the figure for Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday, and here are my thoughts.
Funko got pretty much every detail of the character’s appearance right, and I especially like the way they show his glass eye with a thin ring of blue– it’s subtle, but really gives the right type of reflection. I also like the mold of the hair, but it’s a little heavy in the back so the figure can tip over at a slight nudge. The ravens are a particularly cool touch and add a lot of character to the figure without being distracting. Overall, this is a great item and I’m hopeful that some more of the show’s visually distinctive characters will get figures of their own when season 2 arrives.
