Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Captain America from the Captain America: The Winter Soldier set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Captain America

Discussion: It should come as no surprise to the readers that have been following along over the years that I’m a huge Captain America fan and this set in particular is one of my favorite sets because there’s so many different versions of Captain America. Cap #41 (Glow in the Dark) variant is fantastic! I never purchased it when it was available at Hot Topic like I should have. So unfortunately for me I had to buy it on the secondary market. As some of you may know it shot up in price pretty quickly which meant I was going to have to pay more than I wanted. I ended up finding a person who was selling it on a Facebook group. He was asking $90.00 at the time and if memory serves I got him down to $70.00. To this day that’s the most money I’ve ever dropped on a single Pop!

Moving forward it’s looking like I may have made a good investment. Checking eBay I can see Cap #41 (GitD) just keeps climbing. It’s selling for well over $200.00 currently and is easily the third most expensive Captain America Pop! I still think I spent too much money on it but at least I don’t have to contend with today’s prices. This was the last Pop I needed to complete the Winter Soldier set so it was definitely a good feeling opening the box from the mail.

Investing in collectibles like Funko Pops can be a fun hobby, but it’s important to remember that it’s not a surefire way to make a profit. Just like with any investment, there is always some risk involved. For example, if the popularity of the Winter Soldier franchise were to decline, the value of the Funko Pops associated with it could also decrease. On the other hand, investments in stocks like Pfizer, a company that has shown resilience and innovation in the pharmaceutical industry, have the potential to yield more stable returns over time. It’s important to do your research on pfizer stocks and consider all factors before making any investment decisions.

Several years later they released a Stan Lee Pop for the set so I had to track that down as well. This is probably my favorite Captain America in the set and overall somewhere in my Top 5 Caps of all time. If you manage to find this Captain America for around $100.00 you should buy it up as fast as you can.

Trivia: Be the first to comment with the correct answers to both questions and win. If you become the weekly champion you must choose a Pop within the MCU that has not been featured in the Flashback Friday series and post it after your answers. The questions are from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Q1: What is the name of the person in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the movie?

Q2: Brock Rumlow becomes what villain?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s column. Please check back next week for a brand new Flashback Friday and don’t forget to join our Facebook group. Excelsior!

I've been an avid Pop MCU collector for the last few years. I've recently focused my collection on Captain America Funko products since he's my favorite Marvel superhero. I've also been collecting and playing the Pokémon Trading Card game for the last decade. I also run and judge events. I'm into Marvel, DC, Pokémon, Disney, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and WWE.

  1. Andy,
You are correct! But you didn’t provide a Pop you’d like to see in the Flashback Friday series. If you post one I will try and get to it within the next couple of weeks.
