Flashback Friday – Drax and Groot

Welcome to Flashback Friday where I discuss pops from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything pop related to the MCU is up for discussion including films and television series. Let’s jump right in with this week’s discussion. Drax and Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set is this week’s featured MCU Pop.

Discussion: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 debuted in May 2017 to a cosmic $146 million opening weekend. This film out grossed the original domestically, internationally, and worldwide. The popularity of the characters is about as mainstream as you can get right now. I mean they have their own ride at Disneyland California Adventure. Drax’s admiration continues to increase because Dave Batista is just owning that character and he’s that funny and awkward. When you have the cutest character in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and arguably the most popular team member in the Guardians Disney knows they can use that to print money. So what’s more adorable than creating a Pop where Drax (tough guy) is holding Baby Groot (super cute)? This is easily one of the cutest Pops with two characters available right now. If you’re fans of Drax or Groot you should add it to your collection.

Drax and Groot was released in 2017 sometime after the first or second wave of releases for the set. It’s exclusively available at FYE (For Your Entertainment) stores. Checking recent eBay completed sales I’m seeing some for as low as $12.00 and as high as $30.00. So on average you’re probably looking at $15.00-$20.00 as of this writing. I’d say if you’re a fan of the characters pick it up now before it gets harder to find. I’m sure the price will increase going forward so better to be safe than sorry. In fact, I need to pick one of these up myself but I’ve been slacking so I’m way behind. I’m hoping they’ll release more similar to this and the Rocket and Groot one. Personally I wish Groot was hold a bowl of M&Ms while Drax was holding him.
